We’re making changes to ensure our water coverage is priced more accurately and fairly. For our brokers with customers located in water-prone areas we’re making changes to our underwriting approach. You can read more about this in our “Fair Approach to Water” bulletin in the Broker Services section of GoBroker.

Many municipalities offer subsidy programs to help people protect their homes from flooding and water damage. For example, the City of Ottawa offers The Residential Protective Plumbing Program that provides financial assistance to qualified property owners for the installation of protective plumbing devices, such as sump pumps and storm and sanitary backwater valves. Customers that take advantage of these programs may benefit from higher coverage limits.

“Following the launch of WaterEscape Plus and our partnership with connected home automation provider FIBARO, we’re continuing to evolve our approach to water,” said Danielle Glendinning, Director of Personal Insurance Solutions at Gore Mutual. “We want to recognize customers who understand the risks associated with their home and take actions to improve their water protection.”

We encourage our brokers to speak with customers about available subsidies in their area. More information about subsidies can be found here.
