QUESTIONS ABOUT
YOUR POLICY
Your insurance broker is often the best place to start with any questions you may have. They can provide valuable, independent advice and ensure things get moving quickly. Check your documents to find your broker’s contact details or search for your broker below.
HERE ARE SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We can take credit card payments directly from our policyholders over the phone, but we will generally refer our policyholders to their broker for anything to do with their policy, billing included.
By phone: 1-800-265-8600 and say “Billing” or press 3. You can also press 0 to get to the receptionist and ask for Billing • By email: BillingTeam@GoreMutual.ca By fax: 1-800-601-9773
We accept MasterCard, Visa and Debit Visa (this is a card which accesses a bank account).
Yes, you can choose any day of the month as your withdrawal date. To keep the schedule billing correctly, the withdrawal date should be near the effective date of the policy. If the withdrawal date isn’t specified, we use the effective date of the policy. If the 31st is chosen as the withdrawal date, we will withdraw the payment on the last day of the month; the 28th or 29th (for February), the 30th or 31st.
Yes, the withdrawal date can be changed at any time during the term, up to a maximum of two times per term. However, drastic changes to the withdrawal date (e.g. from the 1st to the 25th) may result in a different payment schedule. Please call your broker to make this change.
You can add Gore Mutual as a payee in your banking application, or over telephone banking, and use your policy number as the ‘account number’ when prompted. To pay at the bank, the bank teller also needs this information. If you have more than one policy, this step will need to be done for each policy. We receive the payment in about 3 business days.
Your broker can help you determine your outstanding balance.
Yes, we accept postdated payments for the due date of the policy, either by cheque or credit card.
If your payment is returned due to Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF), it will automatically be retried in approximately 5 calendar days from the same bank account. We don’t charge a fee for the first NSF. If the second payment is returned NSF, a fee of $35.00 is charged. The fee is divided equally over the remaining payments.
If your returned payment is due to Funds Not Cleared, Account Frozen, Stop Payment, or Payment Recalled, we do not do a 5 day retry. A fee of $35.00 is charged and is divided equally over the remaining payments. If your returned payment is due to Account Closed, Account Not Found, or Drawer Deceased, we do not do a 5 day retry, and a fee is not charged.
If you’re on a Monthly Pay Plan, we cancel if the first withdrawal on new business is returned NSF, or there are 2 returned payments in the policy term. On all other payment plans, we cancel if a payment is returned NSF or if nothing is paid. Usually, 2 reminder notices go out before we cancel.
For Ontario automobile policies, reinstatement terms are on the registered letter. We require the missed payment plus any fees, in guaranteed funds, in our office by noon on the business day before the cancellation effective date. If this is the 3rd non-payment cancellation in the term, however, we do not reinstate. For Property and Commercial policies, please contact your broker.
The refund will be mailed directly to you, and it will be mailed about three weeks after the last payment. We do not refund to a credit card or to a bank account.
